Everyone has their pet peeves about themselves, usually, we all have a list of them, right? One of both of ours was our teeth. Nearing 30 it was starting to become apparent they were not the pearly whites of our teenage years anymore. We both have very busy schedules from running our businesses to traveling a lot, we just never really did anything about it. Heather did professional whitening once before our wedding through the dentist. It worked well, but it was VERY pricey. Walter, tried Crest Whitestrips once as well but found them not very effective. So for our busy schedule, whitening toothpaste was as far as it gets. Our teeth were pretty yellow to us, though since we aren’t coffee drinkers and Heather drinks tea sparingly, we are sure they could have been worse. It was too much for us though! So when Smile Brilliant approached us about trying them out… well, we were sold.
How does Smile Brilliant work?
Smile Brilliant is very similar to a whitening system you would get through your dentist, however, at a cost, you can afford! The set we got was the T3 Sensitive System that is $159. They allow payment plans to make this more affordable, and a money-back guarantee! We would suggest going ahead and getting a larger set, you will love this and it’s much cheaper to get more tubes when you order. The $189 set includes 27 applications v. 9 applications for $159. Go ahead, do it!
The Molds
Once you order your kit, you receive the whitening, sensitivity gel, and the mold kit. Your first step is getting your molds made. It was a little intimidating at first, but it is very easy.
The kit comes with a Catalyst paste and Baste paste. One is blue and one is white. They are both flexible until mixed today and then they harden quickly.
First, you take the Catalyst paste and Base pate and roll it around in your hands. It’s just like mixing play-dough until it turns blue. You place this paste in the trays. It’s all a timed process that feels a little intense, but we didn’t mess up at all, it was much easier than it seems.
After you roll the paste, you place it in the trays and insert it in your mouth.
This was the hardest part of the process because we are both impatient and it felt like the longest 3 minutes ever. Once it’s hardened you remove and repeat for the bottom mold.
Now the molds are all done. Smile Brilliant sends you a prepaid label to insert these in and send it right back to them. There also is a little form to sign you need to send with them as well.
If you didn’t buy more gels, in the beginning, this is your last chance to do so. This is our one regret, not buying more when they were discounted! You will want them, trust us. Wait a couple of weeks now and you will have your custom trays.
Whitening Instructions
We will be honest, we procrastinated a couple of days getting started because it seemed intimidating at first once we got our trays. It’s not, we promise! You can do it ANYTIME.
First, you brush your teeth with JUST WATER, no toothpaste. Also, go ahead and ditch your whitening toothpaste until you get done. Just get regular toothpaste. You first open up your custom tray package and a whitening tube. Each tube will last for 4 applications both top and bottom.
You remove the tray and apply a quick thin line across the front of the tray. AKA where your teeth would hit on the tray.
Once you have it applied you insert both in your mouth. There will probably be some spillover onto your gums. Make sure to wipe this off with a q-tip. Trust me, after a few days, those will get irritated if you don’t. Your gums will probably be irritated in general, but it helps to be careful in the beginning.
You can leave these in from 45 minutes to 3 hours based on sensitivity. It’s best to start with 45 minutes and work your way up. By the end we had it worked up to 1.5 hours but because of sensitivity, we couldn’t go past that.
When should you whiten?
When should you whiten? It’s really easy to whiten anytime! The one thing you should consider is when you need/want to eat or drink something. You can’t eat/drink for the 1.5 hours you are whitening and for an hour afterward. So it’s best to avoid breakfast, lunch, or dinner times. They suggest before going to bed, however, if you are like us and want a drink or snack in the evening, that doesn’t work well!
We varied day by day on when we found time. A lot of times the best time that worked was immediately after breakfast or lunch. After breakfast meant we wore them on our daily walk, which is about 1.5 hours, which was perfect. After lunch, meaning in the middle of work! This gave us a good gap of time while working to be able to get this accomplished. If you work from home or an office you can easily do this during your work hours.
However, some of you might have a lot of remote work and meetings so this sometimes won’t work. Another time we found to work was right after dinner, this worked while doing chores like laundry or dishes. You can whiten anytime you don’t need to eat!
Whatever the time you decide to whiten, there should be time even in the busiest of schedules. We are running two businesses and traveling regularly. Sometimes it was “inconvenient” but it was always possible during the day to get it done, even if it was during a bath/shower and getting ready.
After Whitening
After you finish your 45 minutes to 3 hours, you need to brush your teeth. This time, with toothpaste, but regular toothpaste no whitening toothpaste! Also, rinse and dry your trays. Then you do the same thing you did before with the desensitizing gel. A thin strip goes on the front of the trays, and you insert them. However, this time it’s just for 20 minutes. This gel helps with the sensitivity you most likely will experience through the whitening. It replenishes nourishment from the whitening.
After you finish this 20 minutes, you will just spit and then rinse and dry your trays again. Now just make sure not to eat/drink for an hour and you are all done for the day. You need to repeat this process for 7 to 14 days. We went for the whole 14-day process. It was an easy process, however, we can be honest, it gets brutal toward the end. Not because it’s not easy, you get just tired and your teeth hurt. It’s worth it, PUSH THROUGH!
After is top, Before is Bottom
The photos truly don’t do this transformation justice, however, you can still see the stains and spots on our teeth have drastically decreased. (After is top, Before is bottom) Our teeth look much whiter and we plan to keep this up. We love seeing our pearly whites returned. We highly recommend this, we could see results already the first day.
After is top, Before Bottom
A few things we learned
There will be spotting through the process, your teeth will be spotty. It’s normal! The nutrients are being pulled from your teeth with the stains. Don’t worry they go back to normal quickly and the desensitizing gel helps.
There will be sensitivity, don’t worry it’s normal! Just don’t push too hard. Also, there will be some rubbing and gum soreness. It’s not bad and goes away quickly.
After is top, Before is bottom
We highly recommend this!
We do highly recommend this and plan on purchasing more tubes to keep up our whitening so we keep our pearly whites looking good. The cost is so much lower than professional whitening and it works! Are you sold yet? If so, go ahead and head to this link to enter to win a kit of your own, and if you don’t use the discount code to get started. You won’t regret it. And trust us, you have time to get a beautiful smile!
